Instructions for Making This Valentine’s Day Flower Handprint Craft

Print the Template

  • Download and print the free Valentine’s Day Handprint Art Template on cardstock or heavy paper for durability.
  • Click the “Get it now” button above. Save it to your computer and open the file in a PDF viewing software such as Adobe Acrobat. Go to the file menu and select print. Before printing, ensure the page size is set to “Fit,” your printer settings are set to “Best Quality,” and you have the correct paper format selected in printer settings.

Prepare the Paint

  • Set up a crafting area with a protective table cover to prevent messes.
  • Pour green washable paint onto a paper plate.

Create the Handprint Leaves

  • Help your child dip their palms and fingers into the green paint.
  • Use a brush on their hands to ensure the paint is applied evenly and thoroughly.
  • Guide them to press their hands firmly onto the template, on both sides of the flower stem, to create leaf shapes.
  • Carefully lift their hands straight up to avoid smudging.
  • Let the paint dry completely before any optional decorating.

Add Personalized Touches

  • Once dry, let kids get creative by adding their name and the year.
  • Decorate with stickers, glitter, or hearts to make it extra festive.
  • If desired, laminate the artwork for long-lasting preservation.

Display or Gift the Artwork

  • Frame the completed craft as a Valentine’s Day decoration.
  • Use it as a handmade Valentine’s Day card for a loved one.
  • Hang it on the fridge or bulletin board as a sweet memory.

Alternative Ideas and Variations

  • Footprint version: Instead of handprints, use baby footprints.
  • Multiple handprints: Add siblings’ or friends’ handprints. You could have one person add their handprint to one side and someone else on the other side. Alternatively, you can overlap them with the biggest print in the back in a darker shade of green and the smaller print in front in a lighter shade of green. Be sure to let the first print dry first before trying this method.
  • Fingerprint hearts: Create mini heart designs using fingerprints around the template.

I hope you and your little ones enjoy making this cute Valentine’s Day Handprint Art! It’s a fun and festive way to celebrate the season of love while creating a precious keepsake to cherish year after year.
